Hailing from the vibrant musical landscape of Ithaca, New York, Crime Waves is a rising force in the progressive alt-metal scene. Comprising the musical talents of David Harris (30 Watts Short, Paralysis at Dawn), Ritchie Klimaszewski (Paralysis at Dawn), Michael Schuler (WØLFY, Fablesayer), and Tyler VanOstrand (30 Watts Short, Balor’s Eye, GALATIS), this quartet’s story is one of musical destiny, with three of its members—Harris, Klimaszewski, and VanOstrand—having shared their musical infancy as teens, only to reunite decades later to embark on a new chapter of sonic exploration with rekindled synergy. Crime Waves began at Howl Studios in 2021 with an innocent series of jam-sessions that soon gave-way to cleverly constructed songs and the well-developed, neoteric sound that sets them apart in the genre.

Too heavy to be math-rock, yet too quirky and spastic to be prog-metal, this instrumental band is fueled by a passion for pushing musical boundaries. With “unity through opposition” as their mantra, they craft a flowing, yet vertiginous sound from a wide-array of influences, intermingling technical elements with uplifting melodies and playful patterns with driving, syncopated rhythms. The quartet's self-titled debut album was brought to life at Electric Wilburland Studios in November ‘23 with the talents of Matthew Saccuccimorano, and it will be released through Habit Forming Records in April ‘24. This bold excursion showcases the band’s energy, chemistry, and technical prowess through six high-intensity tracks, presenting a novel blend of tech-metal, hardcore, sludge, prog-metal, punk, alternative, and math-rock that pits levity against aggression, tradition against innovation, and melody against dissonance.

Crime Waves promises not only a thrilling exploration of progressive alt-metal but also an unwavering commitment to their ever-evolving musical machinations. This debut album marks the beginning of the tetrad's sonic odyssey, with many more musical adventures on the horizon.
